If you are a Pixel user you must have noticed that the smartphones’ battery life predictions haven’t been the most accurate. And that certainly does hamper user experience. Therefore, in order to help you better predict how your battery will perform throughout the day, Google is now adding a ‘smart battery’ feature to Pixel devices. A Google product manager yesterday announced what it called the ‘smarter way’ that your Pixel smartphones will calculate the remaining battery life. Earlier, Pixel smartphones shared a very simple (and often incorrect) prediction on battery consumption and performance. For instance, if a user consumes five percent of the phone’s battery per hour for the first five hours, then the phone would automatically assume that the user will now continue to use the same five percent for subsequent hour till the battery runs out. However, with the new smart battery features, the smartphone now has an on-device model based on usage from similar days or times of day to create more accurate estimations of your usage. Also Read - PUBG New State receives over 17 million pre-registrations as closed alpha testing ends
This is definitely a minor change, but it’s a really handy one. Not only can you see on a chart how your battery will be used through the day, but the battery settings menu will give you a much more accurate estimate on the amount of time you can use your phone until the battery runs out. Google says that this feature is live already. So, if you are a Pixel or Pixel 2 user, in all likelihood your phone already has the feature.
If you want to take a look at the new battery predictions, head to Battery in Settings and there you would see the remaining running hours for your device. To get a more accurate view, you can tap the battery icon and see a graph.
