Google Pixel devices are now receiving the latest Android security patch for December, along with other specific updates meant to improve device performance and usability. Along with the standard security patch that will be available to all manufacturers of Android smartphones, Google has also rolled out specific tweaks for its Pixel devices, including a large number of improvements for the Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.
The update will roll out as an OTA over the next few days, but Google has already made the factory images and OTA files available online for anyone that wants to manually get onto the latest software. An important improvement comes in the form of RAM management tweaks for the Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL, which was flagged back in early November. Google promised a fix for this, and has duly delivered with what it says will finally fix issues that caused the devices to aggressively shut down background apps to keep battery life up.
Fixes have been issued even for older Pixel devices, but the new phones receive the most attention with this particular software push. The Google Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL were launched in October, and went on sale in India soon after from Rs 71,000 onwards. The new devices are powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC, and come with 4GB RAM and up to 128GB of storage.
