Google is gearing up for its October 4 event where it is widely expected to take wraps off the new Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. The company has already started sending out media invites for the same. It has also put up a Made by Google micro site with a small teaser video. The invite also shows a Google Assistant logo, which is expected to be new Google UI, different from stock Android. Over the past few weeks, we have already come across leaked renders of both the smartphones. The latest leak shows off front and back of the alleged Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones side by side. Shared by AndroidPolice, both the Pixel and Pixel XL are wrapped in metal frame. The front panel shows the selfie camera, proximity sensor and earpiece above the display, and thick bezels on the sides. The power / sleep button and volume rockers are placed on the right edge. Turn to the back and you can see the lower half covered with metal and top half covered with glass. The camera sensor and LED flash are placed on the top left corner, whereas the fingerprint scanner is placed between. The lower section of the rear has antenna lines, which reminds us of HTC s One A9.
The Pixel smartphone was also spotted in Alphabet subsidiary Nest s TV commercial in the Netherlands, and it looks exactly the same as we ve seen in the leaks. It shows off silver color variant of the smartphone with white front and white glass on the upper part of the back panel. Citing sources, the publication also mentioned that the price of the Google Pixel is likely to start at $649 (approximately Rs 43,510), which is same as the starting price of iPhone 7 in the US.
Google Pixel specifications
From what we have come across so far, the Google Pixel (codenamed Sailfish) could flaunt a 5-inch full HD (1080p) display. It is expected to be powered by Qualcomm s Snapdragon 820 quad-core chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage. In the camera department, a 12-megapixel rear camera with dual tone LED flash and an 8-megapixel selfie camera are likely to be in tow. In terms of connectivity, a USB Type-C port for charging and data transfer, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 4G LTE with VoLTE support are expected. On the software front, Android 7.1 Nougat is expected out-of-the-box.
Google Pixel XL specifications
The Google Pixel XL (aka Marlin) is expected to be the elder sibling of the Pixel. It could feature a slightly larger 5.5-inch QHD AMOLED display, and is likely to be powered by Qualcomm s Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor paired with 4GB of RAM. In the storage department, two variants are expected — 32GB and 128GB. With a 12-megapixel rear camera and dual tone LED flash, an 8-megapixel selfie camera is also expected. Rumors also suggest that the Pixel XL could sport a 3,450mAh battery, USB Type-C port, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 4G LTE and VoLTE support. According to a recent rumor, Google has also tasked Huawei to manufacture a 7-inch Pixel tablet, which could make its debut at the October 4 event. While the availability details are missing at the moment, we will get to know more when Google makes the official announcement.
