The top trending app in India in 2016 shows just how much selfies are popular in India. A photo editing app, called BeautyPlus Me Perfect Camera, which on the Play Store has over five million downloads. Of course all these aren t just by Indian users or done just in 2016, however, the numbers do reflect on the popularity of the app. The app has really been targeting Indian audience by releasing support in a number of Indian languages like, Hindi, Tamil, Bengali, Telugu and Kannada, among others. The list of the most popular movies is quite surprising with just one Bollywood flick making it to the top five list, that too on the second position. Last year s release, The Martian, looks like the most popular among the Google Play Store users in India. The Martian is followed by Salman Khan starrer Sultan, The Jungle Book, The Intern and Deadpool. The app currently has between 10 million to 50 million downloads, and it has been created by a Hyderabad-based developer. Again, these total download figures doesn t account just the Indian audience, but shows just how popular the app is in general.
And here s the interesting part of the most popular games list, the game app of the movie Sultan has been the second most popular app among Indian users on Play Store. Other top trending apps are Traffic Rider, Talking Tom Gold Run, and the Grand Gangsters 3D. Surprisingly, the trend of the year, Pok mon GO, did not make it to the most popular app list in India, probably because it never officially made it to India. Further, the most popular book list shows that Android users have a pretty decent literary taste. Cometh the Hour by Jeffery Archer is the most popular e-book on Play Store, followed by When Breath becomes Air by Paul Kalanithi, The Trials of Apollo: The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordon, Half Lion by Vinay Sitapati, and The Last Mile by David Baldacci.
Looking at the global trend, The Force and Harry Potter were no match for a different kind of superhero as Deadpool and Deadpool Kills the Universe dominated the movie and book charts this year. Game of Thrones kept The Walking Dead away to once again claim the Iron Throne as the most popular TV show of 2016. Twenty One Pilots had no need to feel Stressed Out as their single came in as the number one most streamed song of the year, but don t feel Sorry for Justin Bieber who came in at number two. And, of course, Pokemon GO captured the top trending game spot, globally.
