Google has yet again come out with another of its interesting innovations, this time in the form of a smart contact lens. Developers at Google X are working on this smart contact lens project, in order to let users check their body’s glucose level through tears. Google says that this tech will mainly help diabetic patients who will not need to test the sugar level by going through blood tests and other painful methods anymore. Through this smart contact lens, Google would make blood sugar testing easier than ever by monitoring sugar level in tears through a miniscule wireless chip and glucose sensor, which come embedded between two layers of soft contact lens material. Google is currently testing the prototypes of the lens to generate per-second-based reading and is working on integrating tiny LED lights which can indicate when the glucose levels are high or below the normal level.
It is still in early stages of development and is going through multiple clinical research studies to refine the prototype.
For this, the company is in talks with the FDA, and plans to look for partners who expertise in such products and will develop related apps.
