Google started to test the app just a few days ago.

Few days ago, Google sent out emails to a select few users to help test its new Reply app. However, within just days of the test mail, the app seems to have been leaked, and has become available for download for Android users.

The Reply app was leaked on APKMirror (spotted by Gadgets 360). We went hands-on with the app to check out what features it offers. Once installed, the app requires a Google ID for access. It then asks for permission to access notifications, calendar, and location to offer contextual replies.

Essentially, the app is an attempt to extend Google’s contextual machine learning prowess to third-party messaging apps. It also comes with features like Do Not Disturb that mutes your phone when it knows you are driving, and unmutes it when it thinks you have received an urgent message.

For any security concerns raised, the app claims that information from your phone is not stored for any other purposes.

The Reply app is initially expected to offer contextual replies on messaging apps including Hangouts, Facebook Messenger Lite, Slack, Skype, and Twitter DMs. Sometime ago, 9To5Google spotted a similar Smart Reply feature in Gboard’s beta app version 6.9. According to the report, the Gboard feature works with apps like Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Allo, Hangouts, Android Messages, etc.
