Google is set to launch its $35 Chromecast in multiple international markets next year. “We are going to be launching in a number of international markets,” Google VP of Product Management Mario Queiroz said in an interview with Gigaom. Currently the dongle-like device, which connects to televisions and lets users stream content and select apps from their Android smartphones and tablets, has only been launched in the US. With the increased availability, Google hopes to have more Chromecast-compatible apps, eventually reaching a stage where all apps can be “cast” to a bigger display. However, the bigger goal for Google is to be able to develop its Google Cast technology into a standard that consumer electronics manufacturers use in their devices. Considering the recent interest Google has shown in India by launching the Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 within weeks of its US availability, we are optimistic that India would be one of the first wave of international markets where the Chromecast is launched.
