Google to launch Street View for Indian monuments tomorrow

Google will officially launch Street View in India tomorrow albeit with a caveat. Instead of launching Street View of regular roads and localities, it will be limited to 100 monuments in India that people will be able to visit virtually from their PCs. Earlier in July, we had reported about Google’s Street View team hitting the Charminar in Hyderabad. This isn’t Google’s first attempt at bringing Street View to India. In 2011, it had brought its Street View cars and trikes to map Bangalore but the project ran into regulatory hurdles. This time around, Google has tied up with the Archaeological Survey of India and the Ministry of Culture for the project. It will be unveiled tomorrow at Qutub Minar, which is one of the 100 monuments that will get Street View. Google has been very active with Street View of late, having introduced the feature for the Eiffel Tower, Burj Khalifa, Mt Fuji and even some of the highest peaks of the world including Everest Base Camp.
