Google to release software update to fix audio bug in Pixel phones

The update will fix the audio output glitch along with a few other issues.

Google s first set of self-branded smartphones are reportedly facing multiple issues ranging from software to hardware. After admitting to the latest audio volume-related issue, the company is reportedly preparing a software update which will help users get rid of the static distortion caused at high volume settings on the Pixel and Pixel XL. Users of the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones have reported that the speakers on the smartphones have some problem which is causing crackling when audio is played at the maximum volume. The buggy volume settings are also taking the audio levels at erratic levels. One user reported that while playing media, the volume stopped working at the halfway mark of the settings and with a next click of the volume control, the levels went up about 115 percent. The aggrieved user entered into a chat with a Google representative who hinted at the company working on a solution to fix the audio issue on the Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones. Based on the latest response, Google has identified the issue and is working to resolve it. The company is also working on fixing other issues with the smartphones and will be releasing a fix in the form of an update, PhoneArena reports. Earlier, in a separate complaint by another distressed user, Google s store support representative had acknowledged the issue as one related to hardware. Based on the email response, the issue was known to affect a select build of device. However, the latest response clarifies that the issue is not device specific or hardware related. Since the launch last year, Google s Pixel phones have been marred by a wide range of issues. One of the biggest and most annoying bugs is related to the battery in the smartphones. Similar to the issue with Apple s iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s, users of the Pixel phones also reported that their devices were shutting down as soon as the battery level reached 30 percent. While the issue prompted Apple to arrange a battery replacement program for the iPhone 6s, Google issued a software update for the glitch.

The Google Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones are Google s first attempt in the products category with its range of self-branded devices. Pitted against the Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, the Pixel phones start at Rs 57,000 in India and were able to successfully capture about 10 percent of the country s premium smartphone segment in just 17 days of launch, according to Counterpoint Research. However, given that these are the first set of Google s self-branded smartphones, they are far from perfect, albeit impressive. Both the Pixel and Pixel XL have achieved high benchmarking scores of 140,340 and 141,367 respectively.
