In September last year, Google launched the new version of Chromecast and Chromecast Audio along with the Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P. While Google was quick enough to bring both smartphones to India, the new streaming devices are yet to be launched. Now, according to a new report on Android Police, the new Chromecast and Chromecast Audio could soon launch in India and Taiwan. Unlike the first-generation Chromecast dongle that is available in India, the second-generation device brings a completely new design, along with changes under the hood. The new model now comes with a circular design, and the HDMI cable is attached to a small cable. Available in yellow, black and red color options, it adds support for 5GHz Wi-Fi 802.11ac. There is also a new ‘Fast Play’ feature that allows the Chromecast device to quickly start audio or video streaming on pressing the Cast button. The Chromecast Audio, on the other hand, is a music streaming device that allows users to wirelessly stream music to speakers from their laptop or smartphone using Wi-Fi Direct. As the device streams uncompressed audio, there is no compromise on the audio quality. Compatible with Android and iOS devices, and PCs, the Chromecast Audio also features a 3.5mm audio port and an optional optical digital input port. In terms of software, the Chromecast app has been completely redesigned with focus on content discovery. For instance, it will show the trending content from apps such as ESPN, YouTube, and Netflix among others. That’s not all; Google has also added voice search support within the app.
On the pricing front, the New Chromecast and Chromecast Audio are individually priced at $35 (approximately Rs 2,400). However, the first-gen Chromecast dongle costs Rs 2,999 in India, and the new devices could also be priced around the same.
