As per Android Police, the company is rolling out the new design in the latest version 3.5 of Android Messages. This new version also brings the much anticipated dark mode to the app, which can be enabled manually with the help of an option in the three-dot menu at the top right corner of the app. The report added that this new version replaces the + floating action button that is used to compose new text messages to change it to a larger button with Start chat text instead. Apart from the button and some color changes in terms of the blue and inside the chats, the overall interface has only slightly been changed as pointed by the report. The update has removed the blue fill color and the icon on the left of Start group conversation but rest remains the same. It looks like Google has also inverted the colors to the background so now the messages sent by the user come with a colored background while the messages that the user receives from others come in White.
Google has also removed the ability to chose custom colors for conversations. If you don t get the new update then don t worry as this new version is rolling out gradually, and it will reach your device in coming days. Even after the update, if the new UI may not show up directly then the users may be required to restart their device.
