Google s Cardboard Camera app lets you take photos in panoramic mode, which can be experienced in VR mode via the Google Cardboard VR headset. You can also record sounds while capturing the image and you have the option to either turn the recorder on or off. So what you do is, you take a picture using the Cardboard Camera app but not in the normal snapping way. Once you tap on the capture icon, you have to move the photo slowly to get a good panoramic shot of what it is that you want to capture. Once you re done with it, the app gives a final result of the image that you have captured. Be wary that you need to be very steady with the picture that you are capturing and you would require a lot of patience as well. You need to move your smartphone very slowly to get a good picture and Google even warns you if you re moving the smartphone faster than required. If you haven t gotten a good picture, then your final image will be groggy.
Google s Cardboard Camera app also gives you the option to share the images that you have clicked. This feature was not available in the app before. Sharing images, videos have become a prime tool in any photo or video app. So now, whatever images you capture using the Cardboard Camera app can be done straight from the app. and you can share the images on various platforms. The image is sent as a link and for those who do not have the app, can still view it as a still image. This could come handy while sharing on Facebook, which also automatically converts panorama photos into interactive 360 degree experience.
While iOS gets Google s Cardboard Camera app only now, Google is already on the way of a new Android-powered VR platform called Daydream . Google s Daydream platform is built into the Android Nougat operating system with a dedicated VR mode. This VR mode will offer special VR versions of popular apps like YouTube, StreetView, PlayStore, Play Movies and Google Photos. Google has taken things up a notch, as it has partnered with Netflix and companies like Ubisoft and Electronic Arts for Daydream.
Google s Daydream will be much better than what Google Cardboard offers, the company said. Daydream will come with an improved motion-to-photon latency which is the delay that keeps VR images from properly lining up as you move your head around. Google s Daydream as exciting as it sounds will not be easily available like Google Cardboard since it will be exclusive for Android Nougat. So not just iOS users but even many Android users will not get their hands on Daydream. ALSO READ: Google partnering Hulu, YouTube stars to produce content for Daydream VR platform: Report
