Here are 5 reasons I don’t care about Pokémon GO

Pokémon GO has not only taken over gamers' lives, but there is also a weird pressure in the society to play the game.

So you d know about Pok mon GO of course, from my nephew to my uncles, they are all playing it. Even people who never care about Pok mon, are playing it. People who don t know how to play it are playing it. I mean anywhere you look, give it some ten-odd seconds, and you d spot at least one person with their face right in the phone walking around like crazy, unaware what s happening around them, or they d just be talking about Pok mon GO. There is a weird pressure in the society around this game. If you don t play it, or you don t know about, you are kind of looked down upon — what s that all about? I have played the game, and I don t understand the madness. And let me tell you, as a child, I was actually quite fond of Pok mon, I never missed an episode and I had the most number of the Pok mon cards amongst my friends. Can you imagine, in the US, the Pok mon GO app is more popular right now than Tinder. People going crazy should know that Pok mon GO, before it became a big thing, actually began as an April Fool s joke. Back in 2014, Google introduced a Pok mon challenge for a brief period on Google Maps, inviting people to become Pok mon masters. It worked along with Pok mon and Nintendo to develop a training tool and integrate it within Google Maps, to make things more interesting. Just like right now, the world went absolutely nuts looking for Pok mons to catch, only to find out that it was all an April Fool s Joke!

Of course later, Nintendo and the developers at Niantic, worked on bringing this to the real life, and presented us with Pok mon GO. Here s your cue to go woohhoo!

Coming back to my point, I understand that augmented reality is interesting and it s a fun new mobile game, but why go insane about it? I spoke to a few of my friends, who by the way are hardcore Pok mon fans, and I asked them all about their experience, and that if they would, what would be the reason they would stop playing Pok mon GO. After a lot of stubborn Nos and Nevers, they agreed on telling me the reasons.

Crash! Crash!! Crash!!!

The app seems buggy, because of which it crashes quite frequently. Have had over four instances wherein I lost a Pok mon due to the crush, says Sahil Aggarwal, who other than believing that he is just a blue shirt and red cap away from being a Pok mon master, is a Business Analyst at a management consulting firm.

You don t want to be caught walking in the middle of the road trying to catch a Pok mon. People are getting hurt playing the game. The augmented reality app is causing real world injuries. Players are running into trees, breaking their ankles, that s just too dangerous. Dhruva Kalra, who is a responsible Pok mon freak, says, The opening message on the app should be paid attention to. Everyone playing is walking with their heads down. I guess we need to have special traffic signals to cater for Pok mon GO players now. Kalra, an avid Pok mon player, works with Novartis as an analyst.

Pok mon GO can actually prove to be a horror for atheists in India. Another friend I spoke to, Rohit Tipnis, who is an Analyst at Bain & Co. says, The app seems to be really atheiophobic, it rewards me only when I go to temples and churches . Another Reddit user said, Playing Pok mon Go in India is almost a pilgrimage.”

My battery is always draining!

“The Pok mon GO APK I have loaded on my handset is draining my battery like crazy. To continue to play all day, I constantly have to keep plugging in my phone to charge, else I am scared that my phone battery would die and I would miss a few Pok mons , says Tipnis.

Barging into people s private property

A lot of people have their houses as Pok mon gyms or Pok stops. Now it gets really awkward when you are hunting around to catch a Pok mon only to realize you are standing in the middle of someone s private property. Sahil Aggarwal also told me how he finds it hard to convince people to let us enter their houses. And worse is when you sneak in and get caught. I feel bad for Sahil!

Lastly, I personally think there has been an overdose of the entire thing. The app hasn t even officially rolled out everywhere, it isn t available anywhere on iOS right now, and yet all you can hear about right now is Pok mon GO. This is working like a reverse-psychology for me, there is so much going on about it, that I am already fed up. So, it s great that you love the game and you are having the time of your life, but please be safe and don t give people like me the judgy eyes for not wanted to play it. Chill out and go catch em all only if you want to!
