Earlier today, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg talked about a range of topics during an AMA session, including why he wears a grey t-shirt every day, and why the company forced users to download stand-alone Messenger app among others. He also talked about The Social Network movie, when he was asked how accurate the movie was in portraying his life. Zuckerberg was clearly not pleased with his portyal, and also went on to say that he was a bit hurt. I kinda blocked that one out. It was a very interesting experience that was supposedly about my life. The reality is that, writing a code and building a product is not that exciting, Zuckerberg said. While he admitted that the moviemakers got quite a few details right like the office design, his t-shirts, among others, he also added that they just kind of made up a bunch of stuff that I found hurtful.
This is not the first time Zuckerberg has expressed his displeasure on his portrayal in the movie. Back in 2010, when The Social Networkwas released, Zuckerberg hit out against the moviemakers on their suggestion that he was motivated to create Facebook after he was rejected by an invented character called Erica Albright. In truth, he says Priscilla Chan has been his girlfriend before the advent of Facebook.
The whole framing of the movie is I’m with this girl (who doesn’t exist in real life) … who dumps me … which has happened in real life, a lot,” Zuckerberg said. “And basically the framing is that the whole reason for making Facebook is because I wanted to get girls, or wanted to get into clubs. They [the film’s creators] just can’t wrap their head around the idea that someone might build something because they like building things,” he added.
For those who haven t watched the movie, here s the trailer.
