Yesterday we reported that Lenovo and Toshiba were advising buyers not to buy products from online retailers. However, there was no clarity why the companies had made the move and we could only speculate the reasons. It turns out that the companies were not happy with the low prices these online retailers were selling its products.
“It has come to our notice that some of the online stores and marketplaces are selling Lenovo products at heavily discounted prices. Our observation is that these may not be Lenovo authorized resellers . Keeping our end customer’s interest in mind, we have accordingly issued an advisory on our website.” Shailendra Katyal, director-consumer business, Lenovo India told BGR India.
We had reported yesterday that brick and mortar retailers have not been happy with the prices offered on online retailers, with cases cropping up frequently about them selling products below the dealer price. It remains to be seen whether other brands also follow suit and push online retailers to not sell products below the market operating rates.
