Earlier this year, Nokia made its grand comeback by launching three Android smartphones the Nokia 6, the Nokia 5 and the Nokia 3. And since then, it has also lunched the Nokia 8, Nokia 7, and most recently the Nokia 2. Nokia smartphones from the past were known for their camera prowess, especially the N-series, and the Windows Phone-based Lumia series. With the new Nokia smartphones, HMD Global is still pitching them as good camera smartphones, but the camera app is plain boring. But, if reports are to be believed, things could change soon. There was one thing that Nokia users loved a lot about their Lumia smartphones the Lumia camera app that was launched with Lumia Denim update on the Lumia 1020. Unlike the default camera app, the Lumia camera offered a lot of options, especially the pro mode settings. Users could adjust the shutter speed, exposure, ISO, white balance and manual focus. The interface was intuitive and easy to use. If a recent tweet from HMD Global s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas is to be believed, the company is working on bringing the Lumia camera app UI to its range of Nokia Android smartphones. When a user tweeted to Sarvikas telling about wanting the Lumia camera UI back on Nokia Android smartphones, the HMD Global Chief replied saying, I agree with your assessment. He also mentioned that with Oreo update, the camera app will be updated.

While Sarvikas did not mention any time frame, it is pretty much clear that HMD Global wants to take user feedback seriously, and give what they want. This indeed is good news for all loyal Nokia fans. The Nokia 8 is expected to be a key beneficiary as it has a dual-camera setup with Carl Zeiss optics, which would give it a competitive edge among other smartphones. HMD Global has already confirmed that the Android 8.0 Oreo update will be rolled out to all Nokia Android smartphones. In fact, the Oreo Public Beta build is already out for Nokia 8, and a stable build is expected by the end of the year.
