Honor 10, the flagship smartphone from Huawei’s e-brand Honor, will be officially unveiled in China today. The smartphone is shaping up to be the mid-range iteration of Huawei P20, the flagship smartphone launched by the Chinese smartphone maker last month. The Honor 10 will be the replacement to Honor 9, which was one of the best designed mid-range smartphones with decent chops last year. With Honor 10, the company will recreate the formula of high-end specifications, premium materials at the fraction of a cost. The invite for today’s launch came with the tagline “Beauty in AI” so expect a lot of enhancements driven by artificial intelligence in the software. The immediate thing to notice about the Honor 10 will be its notched display. The smartphone is borrowing the same design cues that we first saw on Huawei P20 and Huawei P20 Pro. The use of a notch means that Honor 10 will have a FullView display with even taller aspect ratio than what we see on other devices. The notch itself will be smaller than the one found on since it will lack Apple iPhone X‘s additional depth sensing camera for 3D face recognition system.
The leaked renders posted on Weibo indicate the Honor 10 will come in signature Twilight color seen on the P20 Pro. The reflective surface on the back of the display will allow the device to shift colors when exposed to light. It will be a nice addition to a mid-range smartphone offering.
Honor 10 Specifications and Expected Price
The Honor 10 is expected to feature a 5.84-inch display with a full HD+ resolution of 2280×1080 pixels, and 19:9 aspect ratio. It is expected to be powered by HiSilicon Kirin 970 CPU, the flagship processor from Huawei that is also embedded with a dedicated neural processing unit. It is likely to be offered in two storage variants with the base model offering 4GB RAM, 64GB storage and a premium model supporting 6GB RAM and 128GB storage.
The Honor 10 is expected to include a combination of 16-megapixel and 20-megapixel dual camera setup at the back. A recent TENAA listing indicated that the upcoming smartphone will include a new feature called ‘semantic image segmentation mode’ that will allow the smartphone to capture multiple scenes at once, and turn them into a single photo. Of course, Honor will use AI systems to enable this feature.

The dual rear cameras will be placed horizontally, and the primary camera is expected to feature wide f/1.6 aperture. The smartphone is also said to feature quad-LED flash for better low-light photography. For selfies, the Honor 10 is tipped to borrow the 24-megapixel camera seen on Huawei P20 and P20 Pro smartphones.
The Honor 10 is likely to run Android 8.1 Oreo with company’s own EMUI 8.0 on top of it. It is expected to be supported by a modest 3,320mAh battery along with support for Huawei‘s fast charge feature. Chinese website MyDrivers claims that Honor 10 will be priced at RMB 2,699 (around Rs 27,000) for the base model, while the variant with 6GB RAM and 128GB of storage could retail for around RMB 3,599 (around Rs 36,000). It claims the sale will begin on April 27.
