Honor 7X, the budget smartphone from the Huawei’s e-brand, has started receiving Face Unlock feature. The smartphone is the third device in Honor’s portfolio to get the feature. The face unlock feature was first released for company’s flagship Honor View 10 smartphone and was extended to quad-camera sporting Honor 9 Lite last month.
The update is being rolled out in a phased manner via OTA update and Honor says it will complete the roll out by the mid-March 2018. With the release of face unlock feature, the Honor 7X becomes one of the cheapest smartphones to support the facial recognition mechanism to unlock the device. With the updated EMUI software, Honor 7X users will be able to unlock their device simply by looking at it.
The feature works by simply enrolling the face of its owner via face recognition feature in the setting menu. Honor explains that the front camera detects the positioning between you and the phone and adjusts the direction accordingly. Facial unlock mechanism has become a new rage among smartphone makers since the launch of a more secure and advanced Face ID feature on iPhone X. Even Xiaomi has brought the feature to its mid-range Redmi Note 5 Pro as part of MIUI 9 update.
“Honor in line with its commitment to introduce meaningful innovation, has constantly introduced smart consumer centric products and features. Honor 7X is already an unbeatable smartphone and with Face Unlock feature, it will emerge as one of the best budget smartphones in the Indian market. Face Unlock Intelligent feature is usually available in flagship level smartphones, however, Honor in its endeavor to deliver unmatched smartphone innovation to the Indian consumers has introduced this feature in the coveted Honor 7X,” said P Sanjeev, Vice-President, Sales, Huawei Consumer Business Group.
Alongside the release of face unlock feature, Honor is also announcing ‘No Cost’ EMI offer for Honor 7X smartphone in India.
