Back in September 2017, Huawei had announced that it will start manufacturing handsets in India in partnership with US-based Flextronics (Flex). The production began with Honor Holly 3 and Honor 6X smartphones in October 2017 in Chennai. Now, expanding their partnership, the company has announced that the Honor 7X will also be ‘Made in India’ in their Flex s plant in Sriperumbudur, near Chennai. Huawei‘s sub-brand Honor is committed to the Make in India program and has already announced that it is making up to 80 percent of its smartphones locally. Honor and Huawei will keep evaluating the demands for the product in India and will keep trying to up the ante for indigenous production and localization. Huawei s manufacturing initiative is part of its commitment to the Government of India s Make in India vision by harnessing local talent, coupled with the infusion of hi-tech R&D expertise and knowledge into the country. The smartphone manufacturing announcement is another milestone in Huawei s 18-year journey in India and the production of the bestseller Honor 7x is another milestone for us , said P Sanjeev, Vice-President, Sales, Huawei Consumer Business Group.
Earlier this month, Allen Wang, director, product center, Huawei India Consumer Business Group, said, Most of our high volume smartphones are made in India . Wang added that due to high-end demand of Honor 7X, the company is making the device only in India. Even Honor 9 Lite will be made in India.
On the other hand, Flex plans to open 45 exclusive service centers in India and is hiring around 1,500 new employees to support production and after-sales functions. Huawei claims to have almost doubled shipments of Honor smartphones in India in 2017 when compared to 2016. The company has shipped 98.8 percent more devices in 2017 in India compared to 2016.
As far as specifications go, the Honor 7X features a 5.93-inch full HD+ resolution display with an aspect ratio of 18:9. There is also a 2.5D glass on top. Under the hood is a Kirin 659 octa-core SoC paired with 4GB of RAM. There is 64GB internal storage on offer, which can be expanded using a microSD card.
One of the talking points of the Honor 7X is the dual-camera setup at the back. This includes a combination of 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors. Up front, there is an 8-megapixel snapper for selfies and video calling. The smartphone is also armed with a 3,340mAh battery, fingerprint sensor, and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, 4G LTE support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS. On the software front, the Honor 7X runs on Android 7.0 Nougat-based EMUI 5.1.
