Honor 8 users in India have started receiving Android 8.0 Oreo update now, although at the start of this year Huawei India had said that the smartphone will not receive Android Oreo while Honor 8 Lite and Honor 8 Pro were getting the update.
Now a few months later, the Honor 8 is finally receiving Android Oreo update in India as well. The beta update arrived in China first and started rolling out to the public in July. According to Android Police report, the EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.0 Oreo update weighs massive 2.33 GB. The update is rolling out over-the-air to users in India, and even Honor’s official twitter handle as aked Honor 8 users to “stay tuned.” The update is likely to make it to other countries after China and India.
Honor previously sighted “hardware and software limitations” as reason for not rolling out Android 8.0 based EMUI 8.0 for the Honor 8 smartphones in January 2018.
Among Chinese smartphone makers, Huawei and its e-brand Honor have a better record in terms of software rollout compared to other OEMs, but unfortunately for Honor 8 the update has come so late (almost after 2 years). The first dual-rear camera smartphone from Honor – the Honor 8 – was launched in October 2016 in India. Similar to the company’s flagship Huawei P9, the Honor 8 dual-rear camera too featured a combination of RGB sensor and a monochrome sensor.

The smartphone packed two 12-megapixel camera sensors at the back with aperture of f/2.2 and pixel size of 1.76-micron. The camera also had a dual LED flash, hybrid auto-focus, and laser autofocus for short range and depth focus for long range. On the software front, the smartphone was launched with Huawei’s EMUI 4.1 based on Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.
