It was quite an eventful day today with three smartphone launches. Huawei s sub-brand Honor launched the Honor 9 Lite smartphone, Oppo launched A83, whereas Samsung launched the Galaxy On7 Prime smartphone. Each smartphone has its own UPS and they’re all priced under the Rs 15,000 mark. We pitted the three smartphones against each other, and Xiaomi s Mi A1, and here s how they compete. Honor 9 Lite comes with dual-cameras on the front and back, 18:9 display and a premium metal and glass design. The Oppo A83 also comes with an 18:9 display and face unlock feature, just like on the iPhone X and OnePlus 5T, to name a few. The Galaxy On7 Prime, on the other hand, does not come with dual cameras or 18:9 display, but Samsung has been touting Samsung Mall, which is an online aggregator for your shopping needs. Price and Availability
The Honor 9 Lite is offered in two storage and RAM variants the 32GB storage variant priced at Rs 10,999, whereas the 64GB storage variant priced at Rs 14,999. The smartphone will be available exclusively via Flipkart and will go on sale starting January 21. The Oppo A83 is priced at Rs 13,990 and will be available starting January 20 across both, online and offline channels.
Samsung s Galaxy On7 Prime, on the other hand, is priced at Rs 12,999 for the 32GB storage variant and Rs 14,999 for the 64GB storage variant. It will go on sale starting January 20, exclusively on Amazon India. Lastly, the Xiaomi Mi A1 is priced at Rs 13,999 and is available to purchase via Flipkart and mi.com/in.
Display and Hardware
Starting with Honor 9 Lite, the smartphone comes with a 5.65-inch full HD+ display running at a resolution of 1080×2160 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by HiSilicon Kirin 659 octa-core SoC clocked at 2.36GHz paired with 3GB of RAM with 32GB storage, or 4GB of RAM with 64GB storage. A microSD card slot for further expansion is also present.
The Oppo A83 comes with a 5.7-inch HD+ display running at 1,440×720 pixels resolution, and 18:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood is a MediaTek 6763T octa-core SoC clocked at 2.5GHz, paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB onboard storage. There is also a microSD card slot for further expansion up to 128GB.
Samsung s Galaxy On7 Prime, on the other hand, features a 5.5-inch full HD display, and is powered by an Exynos octa-core SoC, paired with 3GB of RAM with 32GB storage, and 4GB of RAM with 64GB storage. There is also a microSD card slot for further storage expansion.
Lastly, the Xiaomi Mi A1 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 octa-core SoC paired with 4GB of RAM and 64GB onboard storage. There is also a microSD card slot for further storage expansion.
The USP of Honor 9 Lite is its front and rear cameras. Both, on the front and rear, you get a combination of 13-megapixel primary camera for clicking photos, and a 2-megapixel secondary depth sensor for adding DSLR-like bokeh effects to your selfies and photos. The rear cameras also support PDAF and comes with an LED flash.
The Oppo A83 comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and an 8-megapixel front camera that can scan 128 points on the fact, and unlock the device in just 0.18 seconds, Oppo says. The Galaxy On7 Prime, comes with a 13-megapixel rear camera of aperture f/1.9 with LED flash, and a 13-megapixel front camera of the same f/1.9 aperture.
The Mi A1, also comes with a dual camera setup at the back. You get two 12-megapixel sensors a wide-angle lens for clicking photos, and a telephoto lens to add DSLR-like bokeh effects to your photos, and for 2X optical zoom. Up front, you get a 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video calling.
Battery, connectivity and OS
To keep the smartphones ticking, the Honor 9 Lite is equipped with a 3,000mAh battery, the Oppo A83 has a slightly larger 3,090mAh battery, whereas the Galaxy On7 Prime has the largest 3,300mAh battery among the four devices. Connectivity options on the smartphones include dual SIM card slots, 4G LTE with VoLTE, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and GPS.
In the software department, the Honor 9 Lite runs Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8 skin on top. Xiaomi s Mi A1 comes with Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS with Android One skin, and an update to Android 8.0 Oreo has started rolling out too. The Galaxy On7 Prime runs Android 7.1 Nougat OS with Samsung s custom UI on top. Lastly, the Oppo A83 runs Android 7.0 Nougat with ColorOS 3.2 skin on top.
