Huawei-subsidiary Honor is expected to launch the long-rumored Honor 9 on June 12. In a recently leaked launch poster, Honor appears to be gearing up to launch the Honor 9 with dual-camera setup in China sooner than anticipated. The tagline on the poster which reads ‘Beautiful and Colorful’ when translated, coincides with previous reports of Honor to launch the smartphone in vivid color variants apart from the regular shades of black and white. The leaked poster spotted by PlayfulDroid also tips of the launch event to be held at Shanghai International Conference Center. Prior, to this the Honor 9 has been subjected to various leaks and was even spotted on Chinese certifications website. Honor 9 will be the successor to last year’s Honor 8, and is expected to get a boost and upgrades in terms of features and specifications from its previous variant. However, what has caught everyone’s attention is that Honor is rumored to ditch the traditional 3.5mm audio jack on the upcoming smartphone. Also, reports suggest that Honor might do away with its Kirin 950 SoC, and replace it with Kirin 960 SoC on Honor 9. This SoC was earlier seen on the flagship Huawei P10 and P10 Plus smartphones. If that happens, then Honor 9 subsequently becomes an affordable alternative to the company’s flagship smartphones.
Honor 9 features, specifications
From what we know so far, the Honor 9 is expected to feature a 5.15-inch full HD (1080p) display and an octa-core processor clocked at 2.4GHz. It will come with 6GB of RAM and a 64GB of internal storage. Previous reports also hint at an another low-end variant with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It will come with a fingerprint scanner integrated into the physical home button on the front panel. For photography, it is said to sport the a dual rear camera setup featuring a combination of 20-megapixel and 12-megapixel camera sensors. Up front, it will have an 8-megapixel selfie snapper. The smartphone will house a 3,100mAh battery and run on Android Nougat 7.1-based EMUI. According to the TENNA listing, Honor 9 measures 147.3 x 70.9 x 7.45 mm.
In comparison, Honor 8 featured a 5.2-inch full HD (1080p) display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3. It is powered by a Kirin 950 SoC and has 4GB of RAM with 32GB of internal storage. The internal storage is further expandable up to 256GB. For optics, it has a 12-megapixel dual rear camera setup and an 8-megapixel selfie snapper on the front. It runs on Android Marshmallow 6.0 out-0f-the box, upgradable to Android Nougat 7.0. The smartphone houses a 3,000mAh non-removable battery.
