Honor, Huawei‘s e-brand is jumping into the gaming smartphone segment, with the launch of Honor Play. While Asus, Razer and Xiaomi’s Blackshark target premium mid-range and flagship segment, the Honor Play is aimed at the affordable gaming handset market.
What makes Honor Play exciting is its premium specifications and affordable price tag. While Honor Play is pitched a gamer-centric smartphone, it will also appeal to regular smartphone buyers. Alongside Honor Play, the Chinese smartphone maker is also launching the new Honor 9i with a notched display similar to that of Huawei P20 Lite. Honor Play Specifications and Price
Honor Play is all about flagship specifications and delivering premium experience when you play (games) on the device. The smartphone is powered by Huawei’s own Kirin 970 chipset, which is the flagship SoC from the Chinese smartphone maker’s chip division. With Kirin 970, Huawei has also engineered turbo boost for GPU, which will boost performance while playing graphics intensive games on the Honor Play.
It features a 6.3-inch display with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and taller aspect ratio of 19.5:9. The smartphone is also equipped with the company’s Histen audio tech to provide 3D game sounds and 7.1 channel virtual audio. The base model comes with 4GB of RAM and 64GB storage. Huawei also offers a model with 6GB RAM and 64GB storage.
On the camera front, the Honor Play features a dual-camera setup at the rear with 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors. It also comes with 16-megapixel front camera along with AI recognition and augmented reality features. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo with EMUI 8.1 on top of it and is backed by a 3,750mAh battery. Honor 9i was one of the most successful devices for the Chinese smartphone since it was one of the first to feature dual cameras at the front as well as rear. Now, the smartphone is getting notch treatment similar to one seen on Huawei P20 series and Honor 10 smartphone.

The Honor 9i now comes with a smaller 5.84-inch display supporting a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels and 19:9 aspect ratio. The smartphone is powered by Kirin 659 chipset, which also supports GPU Turbo tech to boost performance while playing games. It comes with 4GB of RAM, 64GB internal storage and support for expandable storage up to 256GB via SD card slot.
The Honor 9i also features a dual-camera setup at the rear combining 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel image sensors. It also has a 16-megapixel front camera with AI enhancements and support for face unlock. The Honor 9i runs Android 8.0 Oreo with EMUI 8.0 out of the box and has a 3,000mAh battery.
