Honor Play, the gaming-centric smartphone from Huawei‘s e-brand Honor, will now be available via open sale. The company announced today that the smartphone will be available on open sale from e-commerce platform Amazon. The thing to note here is that only the 6GB RAM variant of the device will be available as part of the open sale.
Honor Play was announced as a premium gaming smartphone that does not cost a lot of money. It also comes with new features like the Huawei GPU Turbo, which boosts the performance of graphics processor in order to improve the performance while running intensive applications or playing games. In our own tests, we have observed that GPU Turbo really works well while playing graphic intensive games like PUBG or any other newer title. With Honor Play, you don’t need to spend a lot of money or invest on a flagship device to get this feature.
Honor has been growing faster than most other smartphone brands in India. It is trying to take on Xiaomi and its significant presence in the Indian market with devices like the Honor Play. By making Honor Play available via open sale, the company is making its devices more accessible to potential customers.
Honor Play: Specifications and Features
The Honor Play comes with a 6.3-inch LCD display supporting a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels and tall 19.5:9 aspect ratio. The display also features a cut-out or notch at the top, which is wider than the one seen on other Huawei-made smartphones. Powering the device is a Kirin 970 SoC coupled with Mali-G72 MP12 graphics processor and support for GPU Turbo technology.
The smartphone comes standard with 64GB storage and can be purchased with either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. At the time of writing, Amazon India still shows the device is available via flash sale and that the next sale will be held on September 26. Like most other smartphones in this price segment, the Honor Play features a combination of 16-megapixel and 2-megapixel sensors at the back of the device. At the front, there is a 16-megapixel selfie camera that supports 1080p video recording.
The Honor Play features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and runs EMUI 8.1 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. The smartphone support connectivity features like WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and 4G LTE. The Honor Play is backed by a 3,750mAh battery and will be available in blue and black colors.

Honor Play is priced at Rs 19,999 in India for the 4GB RAM variant while the 6GB RAM variant is priced at Rs 23,999. The Honor Play is one of the cheapest smartphone to feature Huawei’s flagship Kirin 970 chipset. On the purchase of Honor Play, Vodafone users will get 10GB additional data for 12 months. There is also option to avail up to Rs 6,390 off on exchange and no cost EMI on Bajaj Finserv EMI card.
