Xiaomi is all set to make its grand debut at the MWC 2016 where it will be taking the wraps off its long-rumored flagship smartphone, the Mi 5. The event is scheduled to take place tomorrow at 9AM CET, which corresponds to 1:30PM in India. The Mi 5 announcement will also be live streamed on YouTube (embedded below), which will allow users from across the globe to watch it. Thanks to the rumor mill and numerous teasers from Xiaomi executives, we have a fair idea on what to expect from the Mi 5. From the leaks that we ve come across so far, the Mi 5 is likely to be offered in multiple variants, which could be differentiated based on its design (metal or glass) and display size.
Pan Jiutang, a renowned analyst has posted on Weibo that along with the Mi 5, some other device is expected too, Gizmochina reports. Besides different variants, the second product could possibly be the rumored Xiaomi drone or a new Mi Water purifier too.
Xiaomi Mi 5 specifications and features: The base variant is likely to sport a 5.2-inch 1080p display and the other variant could come with a slightly larger 5.5-inch QHD display. As confirmed by Hugo Barra, the new flagship will be powered by Qualcomm s Snapdragon 820 chipset. The metal variant is expected to come in 32GB and 64GB storage variants along with 3GB of RAM and 4GB of RAM respectively. The glass variant, on the other hand, too is expected to come with 32GB and 64GB storage variants, but in this case both storage variants will be accompanied by 4GB of RAM.
On the photography department, a 26-megapixel primary camera of aperture f/1.6 and a front-facing 8-megapixel selfie camera is expected. With 3,600mAh battery and support for fast charging, the Xiaomi Mi 5 will also feature the smallest and fast fingerprint scanner embedded embedded inside the home button.
An IR Blaster on the top edge and connectivity options like dual-SIM card slots, NFC and 4G LTE support are also expected. From what we ve heard so far, the Mi 5 will run on MIUI 7 based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box.
