Apart from HTC’s Desire 12 series, there is another smartphone looking on the other side of the world. Lenovo-owned Motorola will launch the third-generation of its Z Play series smartphones. The Moto Z3 Play is expected to become official in Brazil today, suggesting a thin-bezel design and displays with taller aspect ratio. Huawei’s Honor too is expected to be launching a couple of devices later today. HTC Desire 12, Desire 12+ Specifications and Price

HTC Desire 12 is the entry-level model with a 5.5-inch HD+ display, and 18:9 aspect ratio. The Desire 12+, on the other hand, gets a bigger display but retains the resolution. The smartphone features a 6-inch LCD display with HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio.

Under the hood, the HTC Desire 12 gets a quad-core MediaTek MT6739 CPU clocked at 1.3GHz coupled with 2GB or 3GB of RAM and 16GB or 32GB storage. The Desire 12+, on the other hand, gets an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chipset clocked at 1.8GHz. The smartphones comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB expandable storage.

On the camera front, HTC has equipped the Desire 12 with a single 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel selfie camera. The Desire 12+ offers a slightly better camera setup including dual cameras at the back. The rear camera setup on HTC Desire 12+ comprises of dual 13-megapixel and 2-megepixel sensors with f/2.2 aperture and phase detection autofocus. The secondary 2-megapixel sensor is primarily acting as depth sensor for shooting pictures with bokeh mode effect. There is also an 8-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1080p video recording.

HTC Desire 12+ features a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor while the Desire 12 does not include a fingerprint sensor. Both the devices support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and rely on microUSB port for charging. The Desire 12 runs Android Nougat and is backed by a 2,730mAh battery. The Desire 12+ packs a 2,965mAh battery, and runs Android 8.0 Oreo out of the box.

The specifications alone suggest that the Desire 12 and Desire 12+ does not pack a punch to compete against offerings from Chinese vendors. However, HTC will have design and premium experience to count on and might surprise with sub-Rs 20,000 price tag.

Moto Z3 Play: Expected Specifications and Price

Ahead of the launch, the Moto Z3 Play has leaked in the form of renders confirming key features of the smartphones. The smartphone is expected to feature a glass back and support MotoMods for modular attachments. At the front, it will feature bezels that are thinner than its predecessor, and support dual rear camera setup.

The smartphone is expected to feature a 6-inch “Max Vision” AMOLED display with a resolution of 2160×1080 pixels, and 18:9 aspect ratio. It is expected to come with 4GB of RAM and option to choose between 32GB and 64GB internal storage. Due to its thin frame and modular functionality, the smartphone is said to feature a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

One of the big changes this year will be the dual rear camera setup with dual 12-megapixel sensors. At the front, the Moto Z3 Play is expected to stick with an 8-megapixel camera. The Moto Z3 Play will be a mid-range device, and Motorola might introduce new MotoMods to go along with the device.

There is no clarity on the price or availability just yet, but the smartphone is expected to offer new camera modes and improved imaging experience. It should run Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box, and pack a 3,000mAh battery.

Honor Play and Honor 9i with notched display

Apart from Desire 12, Desire 12+ and Motorola Z3 Play, Huawei‘s e-brand Honor will also take stage in China to unveil two new smartphones. One of the devices is expected to be the Honor Play while the second device could be the new Honor 9i with a notched display. Both the smartphones have been certified by TENAA with model numbers LLD-AL30 and LLD-AL20.

The Honor 9i seems to be the more interesting of the two devices from the company. It is expected to share design and specifications with Huawei P20 Lite. The new Honor 9i is expected to sport a 5.84-inch display with a Full HD+ resolution, and 19:9 aspect ratio. Powering the device will be Huawei’s own octa-core Kirin 659 chipset clocked at 2.36GHz coupled with Mali T830-MP2 GPU. The Honor 9i might come with 4GB of RAM and option for either 32GB or 64GB or 128GB internal storage.

The new Honor 9i, likely to be called Honor 9i (2018), might feature a dual rear camera setup with 13-megapixel main sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. It will also feature a 16-megapixel front-facing camera for selfies. Since it gets a notch, the front camera, microphone and other sensors will be hidden within the cut-out.

The TENAA listing revealed that new Honor 9i will feature a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and measure 149.2 71.8 7.7mm in dimensions. It is is likely to weigh around 152 grams and support Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and 4G VoLTE. It will be supported by a standard 3,000mAh battery, and arrive in black, blue and grey colors.
