Earlier this year, HTC President Chialin Chang had confirmed to us in an interview that they would launch a smartwatch this year. The smartwatch was also rumored to be called ‘One Wear’ and was said to be powered by Google’s Android Wear. However, new developments suggest that these plans have been shelved by the company. Companies like Sony, Samsung, LG, Motorola and Asus have announced their next-gen smartwatches with a slew of competitive features. Even Apple is all set to unveil the iWatch on Tuesday leaving HTC to fit into big shoes with its flagship smartwatch.
HTC’s smartwatch was also touted to be a rework of Qualcomm Toq that was unveiled last year. After seeing the competition, if HTC feels that the zeal of its smartwatch is lost, their decision to abandon the launch might not be a bad idea after all.
