HTC has been struggling to stay afloat, and it also had to lay off 25 percent of its staff, but that doesn’t stop it from trying to make a comeback. After launching the U12+, HTC has been working on a blockchain-powered smartphone HTC Exodus, and it is coming soon.
The Taiwanese smartphone maker announced its partnership with CryptoKitties, the “world’s biggest game to be built on blockchain technology.” The game uses technology for creating unique digital creatures with billions of possible combinations, something that players can breed or trade, Engadget reports.

“Mobile is the most prevalent device in the history of humankind and for digital assets and dapps to reach their potential, mobile will need to be the main point of distribution. The partnership with Cryptokitties is the beginning of a non fungible, collectible marketplace and crypto gaming app store. This is a significant first step in creating a platform and distribution channel for creatives who make unique digital goods,” the company said in a release (via TechCrunch).
To play the game, you don’t have to wait for the launch of Exodus as it is soon coming to HTC smartphones, starting with its U12+. It will represent the company’s first push towards creating a decentralized app store.
Meanwhile, the website htcexodus.com has gone live and it is taking signups for more information. The company is promising that the Exodus will be “the first cold wallet phone with key recovery.” While other details are missing, it is all about decentralized internet and apps with the ability to locally store data on the device itself, rather than on the cloud.
