The trend started by LeEco and Apple to remove the headphone jack from their smartphones is likely to trickle onto other manufacturers. If the latest rumors are to be believed, the next smartphone to lack the age-old 3.5mm headphone jack is the HTC Ocean Note, which is said to be one of the three versions of the HTC Ocean expected to be unveiled at the upcoming HTC For U event on January 12. HTC s Ocean line of smartphones have been long rumored to be a new series of sleek and buttonless devices, which are expected to debut in 2017. Reports indicate that the purported line of smartphones include the Ocean Master, Ocean Note, and Ocean Smart. Based on the latest details on the HTC Ocean Note, HTC is opting for a headphone jack-free design. Instead of the standard 3.5mm jack, it will come with a Type-C based jack for audio. The same design has been followed by LeEco for its Le 2, Le 2 Pro, and the Le Max 2. Also Read - HTC Wildfire E Lite listed on Google Play Console
The rumors coming from a Taiwanese news outlet eprice.com further suggest that the HTC Ocean Note smartphone will not only ditch the headphone jack but also feature a curved screen and come with an improved camera. Given the name, the smartphone could feature a large display between 5.5-inch to 5.7-inch which will be curved at its edges, similar to what we have seen on Samsung s Galaxy S7 edge smartphone. HTC is further expected to offer an official screen protector to guard the fragile and crack-prone curved edges of the purported HTC Ocean Note.
As there will be no 3.5mm headphone jack, the smartphone will deliver audio output through its Type-C port which will double up for charging. To compensate for the sheer complexity of juggling between charging the device and listening to music, the company is expected to fit adaptive audio technology that will automatically adjust audio settings based on any ambient noise. One of the highlight of the smartphone is said to be its camera. This year we saw a lot of manufacturers focusing on the camera segment on their smartphone. HTC smartphones have always felt a tad behind in the race to deliver exceptional image output. With the HTC Ocean Note, the company is expected to go for an advanced camera. The camera on the HTC Ocean Note is speculated to have the highest ranking DxOMark, which is currently held by the Google Pixel with a score of 89.
Other details about the HTC Ocean Note are limited to the use of processor and color choices. The smartphone is expected to run the latest Snapdragon 835 processor that offers support for 4K display, Quick Charge 4.0, and even dual-camera setup. In terms of color options, it is expected that the phablet will be available in three color options of Black, White, and Blue. Interestingly, at the same event, HTC has also been rumored to announce its HTC One X10 smartphone along with the HTC-Under Armour smartwatch, and possibly the second iteration of the HTC Vive VR headset. Whether the company announced the brand new Ocean series or prematurely debuts the HTC One X10 smartphone, we will have to wait for the official confirmation.
