Just when we were drooling over the recently launched One M9, the company has come up with a refreshed version of its previous year flagship, called the One M8s. The new smartphone brings in slight changes to the list of specifications, but otherwise looks pretty much identical to last year’s One (M8). Let’s stack them against each other and see how they differ. Also Read - From Nokia 9, Xiaomi Mi Note 3 to Apple iPhone 8; rumor roundup of the most anticipated smartphones of 2017
Both the One (M8) and the One M8s sport an identical 5-inch display set at 1080p and offer a pixel density of 441ppi. Both the displays come with Corning Gorilla 3 protection. Also Read - HTC One M8s with octa-core processor, 13-megapixel rear camera, Android KitKat announced
Processor and RAM
This is the department in which both the phones differ tremendously. Where the One (M8) is powered by a 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, the One M8s is powered by a 1.7GHz Snapdragon 615 octa-core chipset with 64-bit capabilities. Both the processors are paired with 2GB of RAM each.
It seems that HTC has cut the corners by equipping the One M8s with only 16GB of internal storage, whereas the earlier One (M8) came with 16GB and 32GB of internal storage. Both the variants however support microSD card slots, wherein you can increase the storage up to 128GB.
HTC seems to be targeting users who are not inclined towards its Ultrapixels camera technology. In place of the 4-Ultrapixel Duo Camera setup, HTC has opted for a 13-megapixel primary camera. Up front, the company has persisted with a 5-megapixel selfie camera.
The new One M8s comes with a slightly bigger 2,840mAh battery, as compared to the 2,600mAh battery on the One (M8).
While the HTC One (M8) can be updated to Android Lollipop, the One M8s runs on Android 5.0 Lollipop out-of-the-box. The operating system is wrapped under Sense UI.
