Putting end to all rumors, HTC has just launched its flagship One M9 smartphone at MWC 2015 in Barcelona. The new flagship smartphone, looks pretty similar to last year’s One (M8) but there are quite some improvements under the hood. Let’s check out what’s new. Design
At a glance, nothing seems to have changed in terms of design and you’d find hard to distinguish between the two. The biggest change would probably be the lack of a depth-sensing camera on the rear. However, HTC has made subtle changes by coating the rear with a different finish that makes the One M9 less slippery than the One M8. The edges are relatively sharper as well to provide more grip since many user had complained about how slippery the One M8 was to hold. Hardware
On the display front, there isn’t much upgrade with both the handsets sporting a 5-inch display and a 1920×1080 pixel resolution. The processor, however, has received a significant boost. The HTC One M9 sees a 2GHz Snapdragon 810 octa-core chipset, as opposed to a Snapdragon 801 quad-core chipset clocked at 2.3GHz on the One (M8). The RAM is now at 3GB, as opposed to 2GB earlier. Both smartphones have BoomSound speakers on the front, but the One M9 has an edge with Dolby Digital surround sound audio. Also Read - HTC Wildfire E Lite smartphone design leaks online

Storage
Only the 32GB variant of One M9 has been announced today. The HTC One (M8) comes in 16GB and 32GB variants. Both the devices have a microSD card slot with 128GB of external data limit.

Camera
As far as the camera is concerned, HTC ditched the depth sensor in its rear camera for the One M9. The new smartphone dons a 20-megapixel rear camera sensor, with a 4-Ultrapixel sensor for the front camera. The HTC One (M8) has the duo-camera setup at the back and dons a 4-Ultrapixel rear camera and a regular 5-megapixel front-snapper.

Battery
Surprisingly, there isn’t much of an upgrade on the battery front. The HTC One (M8) comes with a 2,600mAh battery, while the One M9 gets a measly upgrade at 2,840mAh battery. The company claims that the One M9 will last for 21 hours and 50 mins on 3G talktime, while the One (M8) claims 20 hours of 3G talktime.

OS
The only big difference is that the HTC One M9 comes with Android Lollipop out-of-the-box, with HTC’s new Sense 7.0 UI. The One (M8) has been updated to Android Lollipop but is still based on Sense 6.0 UI. HTC says that the One (M8) will also be upgraded to Sense 7.0.

The One M9 might not look like a significant update over the One (M8) but it refines what already was a good smartphone and makes it better. If HTC can finally perfect the rear camera, the One M9 could be a great flagship Android smartphone for 2015.
