HTC unveiled the RE camera and the Desire EYE smartphone at its New York event last week. The Taiwanese company seems to be planning on launching both these devices in India as early as this week. The company today sent out media invites for its event in Mumbai on October 17, which too is titled Double exposure. With the RE, HTC has made its first foray into the consumer camera market. The tube-shaped device boasts a 16-megapixel camera with 1/2.3-inch 146 degree wide angle CMOS sensor. It can record videos at 1080p, slow motion videos at 120 frames per second, and time-lapse videos, and is also rugged enough to survive outdoors with IP57 certification. HTC is touting the RE as a GoPro rival. The RE can be connected to Android and iOS devices running on Android 4.3 and above, and iOS 7 and above respectively. HTC also unveiled the Desire EYE, which is a completely selfie-focused smartphone boasting a 13-megapixel camera at the front alongside a LED flash. As for specifications, the smartphone features a 5.2-inch full HD 1080p display, 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB internal storage that is expandable using a microSD card. The smartphone also features a 13-megapixel camera at the back as well, BoomSound speakers, and a 2,400mAh battery. On the software front, it runs on Android KitKat wrapped under HTC Sense UI.
In addition to these two devices, HTC could also launch the One (M8 EYE), which recently went on sale in China. This is essentially the flagship One (M8), but in place of the 4-Ultrapixel Duo Camera HTC has opted for a 13-megapixel primary camera. The smartphone also gets the HTC EYE experience, which the company announced at the New York event.
The rest of the specifications remain the same, so you get 5-inch 1080p display, 2.3GHz Snapdragon 801 quad-core processor, and 2GB of RAM. Also included are a 5-megapixel front-facing camera, 2,600mAh battery, and on the software front, it runs on Android KitKat.
