Taiwanese mobile manufacturer HTC may soon launch a 5.5-inch ‘phablet’ smartphone. Leakster @upleaks states that the company is planning to launch a handset similar to the HTC Desire 816, albeit with a different processor and RAM. The handset is pegged to have an octa-core SoC from Mediatek, instead of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 400 processor that Desire 816 equips. Over the past few months, HTC has introduced smartphones powered by a MediaTek SoC including the Desire 310, and Desire 616, which has helped the company reduce the cost of the device. Given the specs, the handset could be exclusively available for the Asian market.
