Today s smartphone market is an extremely-competitive one, and it has been like that for quite some years now. In those years, this constantly-changing industry has seen little-known names like rise to prominence. Even more so, it s witnessed big-shot companies (almost) fade away from the picture. And one such name is HTC. Also Read - Internet turns 25 in India: Here's how the next 25 years may look like

Only a few years ago, HTC used to be a dominant force in the mobile space. In fact, as a founding member of the Open Handset Alliance, the Taiwanese consumer electronics major is (partly) responsible for the development of Android, the most-popular mobile operating system in existence today. Sadly though, HTC has been mostly irrelevant in the smartphone market for quite some now. Due to continually declining profits over the past few years, the company has diversified its interests into other fields, and selling majority of its design talent to Google for $1.1 billion in 2017. For a long time, this has fueled speculations that HTC may be planning to completely exit the mobile space. But if a new report is to be believed, that is clearly not the case.

As mentioned by a Digitimes report, HTC has completely dismissed recent rumors that it s planning to quit the mobile market. On the contrary, the company has maintained that it will continue to strengthen its portfolio by launching new smartphones, both at the end of this year, and in early 2019.

According to the report, HTC won t give up on its smartphone division because the company thinks that smartphones have become an essential part of people s daily lives. The company further said that its future smartphones will integrate technologies such as VR, Blockchain, and of course, 5G. It s worth mentioning that HTC recently unveiled the Exodus 1, its first Blockchain-enabled smartphone.
