HTC’s ‘For U’ event is just a few days away and latest rumors suggest the unveiling of another smartphone from the company’s new series. Earlier reports indicated that the HTC Ocean Note will debut at the event. Now new details have emerged about what is said to be a smaller version of the phablet. Dubbed HTC U Play, the smartphone is expected to ditch the standard 3.5mm headphone jack just as its larger variant but feature a smaller display at 5.2-inch.
At the January 12 event, it is expected that HTC will announce a new series with two smartphones including the HTC U Ultra and HTC U Play. Details about the two smartphones have been little confusing in media reports. The HTC U Ultra, codenamed Ocean, is said to feature a massive 6-inch display and would also ditch the headphone jack. Codenamed Alpine, the HTC U Play is the smaller version which will sit between the Ocean and a third variant dubbed Ocean Note that will come with a display size between 5.5-inch and 5.7-inch.
Based on earlier rumors, the Ocean series is said to be HTC’s new lineup of sleek and buttonless smartphones. Earlier reports suggested that the purported line of smartphones include the Ocean Master, Ocean Note, and Ocean Smart. If the latest rumor emerging from serial leakster @OnLeaks is to be believed, the HTC U Play could in fact be the Ocean Smart smartphone while the largest variant could be dubbed as the Ocean Master.
Got it from same unverified source (see above) but I put it here anyway, again… 😏#HTC Alpine = HTC U Play = 5.2″ display = no 3.5mm Jack

For the new lineup, HTC is reportedly opting for a headphone jack-free design. Instead of the standard 3.5mm jack, the smartphones will come with a Type-C based jack for audio. The same design has been followed by LeEco for its Le 2, Le 2 Pro, and the Le Max 2.
In addition to the HTC U Play or Alpine smartphone, there have been leaks about the Ocean Note smartphone. With the same headphone jack-free design, the smartphone could feature a curved display, similar to what we have seen on Samsung’s Galaxy S7 edge smartphone. To protect the edges, HTC is expected to offer an official screen protector to guard the fragile edges of the smartphone. With a focus on camera, the smartphone is expected to feature an advanced camera. The camera on the HTC Ocean Note is speculated to have the highest ranking DxOMark, which is currently held by the Google Pixel with a score of 89. Other details include the use Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 835 processor at the core which offers support for 4K display, Quick Charge 4.0, and even dual-camera setup. In terms of color options, it is expected that the phablet will be available in three color options of Black, White, and Blue. By far, there are no specific details on the display resolution or camera specification of the smartphones from the Ocean series
It will be interesting to see how HTC utilizes its January 12 event, which doesn’t fall under the ongoing CES 2017 and precedes the annual Mobile World Congress.
