Months after the roll out of Android 9.0 Pie, many companies have still not given any OTA update or announced specific release date for even their flagship smartphones. HTC, which was Google’s longtime Nexus partner, is upgrading HTC U11 Life to Android 9.0 Pie, making it company’s first device to receive the update.

The HTC U11 Life, released last year with Android 7.0 Nougat, received a quick update to Android Oreo version, and as part of the Android One project, was expected to receive another update. The surprising fact is that the 2017 model, HTC U11 Life will receive the Android Pie update before even its successor.

The Android 9.0 Pie update is about 720MB in size, and is already being distributed “over the air” to smartphones in Europe. With this new firmware, HTC U11 Life also gets updated to Google’s Latest November security patch along with getting some new features of the latest Android OS. These include a modified interface, and adaptive battery charge adjustment function among others.

The HTC U11 Life was launched with features like a compact 5.2-inch display at a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of internal storage with the possibility of expanding the storage further up to 2TB. The HTC U11 Life also featured a 16-megapixel rear camera with support to record videos at 4K resolution. HTC had also talked about plans to upgrade the HTC U11, HTC U11+, HTC U12 Life and HTC U12+ Android 9.0 Pie update rollout before this year end.
