MWC 2018 concluded last week, and while companies like Samsung and Sony launched their flagship smartphones, other manufacturers such as HTC, LG, Xiaomi and Huawei kept a low profile. Huawei is hosting a separate event on March 27 to launch the P20 and P20 Plus smartphones, whereas Xiaomi is also expected to launch the Mi MIX 2s on the same day in China. HTC, on the other hand, is also reportedly working on the U12 smartphone, which is expected to launch sometime next month. Also Read - HTC Wildfire E Lite smartphone design leaks online

Reliable leaker LlabTooFer has spilled some beans over the upcoming HTC U12 smartphone. HTC has been the pioneer of the tech world, it was the first OEM to launch an Android smartphone (T-Mobile G1 / HTC Dream), it was the first smartphone maker to bring a gorgeous full metal unibody design with the One (M7), and One (M8). HTC was also the first to introduce dual-rear cameras on the One (M8), but lost track and never introduced the same on any other smartphone except the One (M9+).

HTC s dual camera implementation looked way ahead of time, and since then, other manufacturers have improvised a lot. While HTC has worked on making its camera better with phones like the U11 and U11+, the Taiwanese smartphone maker now seems ready to relaunch a smartphone with dual cameras at the back.

According to the leak, HTC U12 (codenamed Imagine) would feature a 12-megapixel + 16-megapixel camera setup. But details about the setup are scarce at the moment. The secondary camera would likely be a telephoto lens that enables DSLR-like bokeh effects, and 2X optical zoom. An 8-megapixel front camera is also expected for video calling and selfies.

The HTC U12 is expected to flaunt a 5.99-inch QHD+ display with 18:9 aspect ratio, and is likely to run Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC under the hood. Leaks also hint that it will be paired with 6GB of RAM, and 256GB storage. With a 3,420mAh battery, IP68 certification for water and dust resistance, the smartphone will come with support for single and dual SIM card slots.

Running Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box with Sense 10 UI and support for Project Treble, the Taiwanese smartphone maker is also expected to add support for Face Unlock along with a fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication.
