Right off the bat, the Ascend Mate blurs the lines between what we consider a phablet and a 7-inch tablet. Firstly, we are seeing smartphones get bigger and bigger and most of the new models we have seen at CES encroach in the 5-inch bracket and the Ascend Mate pushes the envelope even further at 6.1-inches. The 6.1-inch display is an IPS display with a 720p resolution. Huawei uses its quad-core Hi-Silicon chipset to power the device, which is clocked at 1.5GHz. The company also talks about a Magic Touch technology that is very similar to the display on the Nokia Lumia 920 enabling the user to use gloves with the panel. Other features of the Ascend Mate include a large 4,050-mAh battery that has a fast charge mode, an 8-megapixel camera and has a Samsung multi-view/pop-up-play like floating Window mode for multi-tasking. OS wise we are looking at an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean smartphone. Also Read - After US, Canada bans China's Huawei, ZTE from 5G networks

The Ascend D2 on the other side is a more pocketable device. It is also packs in top of the line specs that ought compete more with the likes of the Sony Xperia Z then say a Samsung Galaxy S III. It has 5-inch 1080p IPS+ panel that totals to 443PPi. For photography it has a 13-megapixel BSI sensor and it is powered by a quad-core Huawei K3V2 processor clocked at 1.5GHz. It even flaunts a very large 3,000-mAh battery along with a proprietary quick power control mode and automated discontinuous reception technology. Huawei says that it will also make a 4.7-inch model of the same. It also runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Huawei says that the Ascend Mate will launch in February, while the Ascend D2 will be available in January. Both devices will first ship in China and no other markets have been announced for both the devices.
