Huawei has unveiled two new fitness bands, the Huawei Band 2 and Huawei Band 2 Pro. Launched in China, both the wearables come with heart rate monitors. In terms of design, both the Huawei Band 2 and Band 2 Pro share the same design and are compatible with both, Android and iOS smartphones. They can be paired with Android 4.4 and above and iOS 8.0 and above. The heart rate monitors constantly measures and tracks the heart rate 24 x7, giving the user an in-depth insight.
Huawei Band 2 and Huawei Band 2 Pro are both water-resistant devices and come with 5ATM water-proofing technology which protects it for up to 50 meters inside the water. The unique feature that helps the fitness bands stand out is the VO2 Max measuring ability with the Firstbeat algorithm, which keeps track of the amount of oxygen that is imported to the wearer’s bodies at the maximum rate and is then utilized as a source of energy. It also provides feedback to the user in order to help the person improve stamina over a period of time. Apart from the VO2 Max ability, the bands also come with a Breathing Coach.
The Breathing Coach is a personal coach that helps in monitoring the breathing and regulating it. As described by Huawei, “Breathing Training Detects your relaxation based on heart rate changes, guides relaxation and provides a breath quality score, giving you a day of energy.” Additionally, both the wearable bands come with a PAMOLED display and pair up with the smartphones to display all information like messages, calls, and texts. Huawei claims that pairing the device with Huawei phones helps stay connected and check messages even if the smartphone is not in the vicinity. Though most of the features are shared by Huawei Band 2 and Band 2 Pro, the Huawei Band 2 Pro comes with a couple of additional features. There is no GPS in the Band 2 whereas, the Band 2 Pro helps track each and every movement through GPS, giving more accurate results. There is also a Sports Coach feature integrated into the band which is a more advanced sports coach, helping with fitness techniques and keeping track of health. Both, the Breathing and the Sports Coach features combine to give a complete experience.
The fitness bands are available in three colors: Blue, Black, and Red and currently, have only been announced. The date of availability as well the pricing is yet to be revealed. Huawei has also not announced whether the wearables will be rolled out globally. For now, they are restricted only to China. While Huawei has expanded wearables under its Honor sub-brand in India, there aren’t many Huawei wearables in the country.
