Huawei is one of the fastest growing smartphone brands in the world. Earlier this month, Counterpoint reported that the company has surpassed Apple to become the second-largest smartphone vendor in the world. However, experts noted that the position is volatile and Huawei needs to put more effort into maintaining its position and brand recognition. In a move to improve the same, Huawei has now launched an EnVizion 360 Camera module. This, as the name suggests, is an add-on accessory that works only when attached to your smartphone.
Huawei’s blog mentions that the EnVizion 360 Camera module cannot function independently and has to be connected to a smartphone that should be running Android 6.0 Marshmallow or later and should have a USB Type-C port. This means that smartphones having a micro-USB port won’t be able to connect the EnVizion 360 Camera module to their smartphone. The device is priced at $150 (Rs 9,800 approximately) and will be available starting October 17. While there is no word on whether the product will launch in India, the camera module is expected to hit other European markets very soon.
If we recap, we have seen add-on accessories in the market earlier as well. The Motorola Moto Mods and the 360-degree camera accessory are few examples of the same. However, the Moto Mods and Essential’s camera module comes with connecting pins that automatically launch the camera app once connected to the phone. But here, Huawei’s EnVizion Camera module will occupy your USB Type-C port for the same.
The closet we can relate Huawei’s product to is the Insta360 Air camera. The ball-sized camera comes with fish-eye lenses on either side. The Insta360 Air camera can be attached to any Android smartphone via micro-USB or USB Type-C port. Read our review here. ALSO READ: Facebook adds 4K support to 360-degree Live videos
However, coming back to Huawei’s EnVizion 360 Camera module, in terms of specifications, the device is said to feature two 13-megapixel camera sensors, one on each side. The resolution of the photos is said to be 5326 × 2688 pixels, while the video can be recorded at 1920 × 960 pixels @30fps.
