Huawei is all set to launch the Mate 10 smartphone on October 16 in Munich, Germany. The Huawei Mate 10 has been spotted quite frequently in the past few weeks, revealing its design and specifications as well. The smartphone is also expected to debut Huawei s upcoming chipset, the Kirin 970 which is touted to be a direct competitor of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC. According to the leak posted on Weibo (via GSMArena), a spec sheet shows the features of the alleged Kirin 970 SoC. The Kirin 970 SoC will house an octa-core CPU with four Cortex A-73 cores clocked at 2.8GHz, and four Cortex-A53 cores with unknown frequency. The chipset will feature 64-bit ARM architecture, LPDDR4 memory with maximum frequency of 1866MHz. For graphics, it will come with Mali-G72 MP8 GPU.
For connectivity, the LTE modem will come with Cat.12 support. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, and Bluetooth 4.2. Bluetooth 5 would have been highly expected on the Kirin 970 SoC. Lastly, it will be built on the 10nm fabrication process by TSMC.
In comparison, the Qualcomm Snapdragon features big.LITTLE architecture, and is built on the 10nm manufacturing process. It has an octa-core Kyro 280 CPU with four cores clocked at 2.45GHz, and the other four at 1.9GHz. The Snapdragon 835 SoC supports Quick Charge 4.0, X16 LTE modem, Bluetooth 5.0, and Wi-Fi 802.11ad. Speaking about the Huawei Mate 10, the smartphone is expected to feature a 6.1-inch Quad HD AMOLED display which is confirmed to be bezel-free. It could come with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of expandable storage. It will possibly run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out-of-the-box. The smartphone could boast Leica-branded camera at the back.
