Huawei has launched its latest smartphones, including the Huawei P20 Pro, Huawei P20 Lite and Honor View10 on Android Oreo, running on its EMUI 8.0 user interface. However, the company also announced that some of its older devices would see software updates rolling out, that would bring the devices onto Android Oreo. While the Mate 9 and P10 were first, a report by XDA Developers suggests that Android Oreo could come to seven more smartphones, albeit through the beta program. The devices that are reported to be in line for Android Oreo include the Huawei P9, Huawei P9 Plus, Huawei Mate 8, Honor 8, Honor V8, Honor Note 8 and Honor 6X. Huawei has aligned its EMUI naming conventions to match with the Android version, so an Android Oreo-based interface would be EMUI 8.0 or 8.1. Therefore, the devices are set to receive EMUI 8.0, which is based on Android 8.0 Oreo. However, the roll-out is currently happening through a beta program in China, with the stable release expected later. Also Read - Honor phones to come with Google Mobile Services: Report
It’s worth noting that a beta roll-out involves a bit of expertise to implement on your device, since it involves the replacing of the stable software line with a different beta software line. The advantage of beta software is that users receive new and in-development features first, along with newer operating systems. However, beta software comes with the disadvantage of being less stable than final software, and as such could see unexpected effects such as crashes or odd behavior.
