At this year’s IFA consumer electronics tradeshow in Berlin, Huawei announced EMUI 9.0, the latest version of its custom Android UI overlay. Based on Android Pie, EMUI 9.0 has been available as a beta for select Huawei and Honor smartphones for quite a while now. It seems though, that the wait is finally over.

Huawei has announced that EMUI 9.0 is coming to India, complete with India-specific features and localized capabilities. Citing an official statement from Huawei’s Consumer Business Group, the Android Pie-based release of EMUI, which is scheduled to arrive for multiple Huawei and Honor smartphones, will feature key contributions from Huawei’s India R&D team.

Among the localized features of EMUI 9.0 are enhanced language support (for up to 28 languages), a better-designed local calendar, and most importantly, deeper integration of Paytm with the UI overlay.

“The enhanced user experience and high-speed performance of EMUI 9.0 come together and enable an unmatched operating system for Huawei phones that is intuitive and simple,” Brody Ji, Senior Product Director, Huawei Consumer Business Group, was quoted as saying.

Ji further added, “At Huawei, we see tremendous potential in the India market and are focused on fostering innovation here by bringing cutting-edge technologies to the country.”

Recently, at the third annual ‘Huawei Connect’ event, the Chinese technology major announced its AI strategy. The company also unveiled a new portfolio of AI-powered ‘Ascend’ series of chips. Apart from hardware, Huawei’s new portfolio also encompasses cloud services built upon the Ascend chips.
