Let s start with the cameras, and in line with the leaks, there are four cameras at the back placed in a square shape. The setup essentially includes the triple cameras introduced on the Huawei P20 Pro earlier this year, and adds an ultra wide-angle lens. The Leica-backed triple-rear camera setup on the Mate 20 includes a 16-megapixel sensor with ultra wide-angle lens (f/2.2), a 12-megapixel sensor with wide-angle lens (f/2.4) and an 8-megapixel sensor with telephoto lens (f/2.4) for 2X zoom and portrait mode.
The Mate 20 Pro, on the other hand, comes with a 40-megapixel primary sensor with wide-angle lens (f/1.8), a 20-megapixel sensor with ultra wide angle lens (f/2.2), and the third is an 8-megapixel sensor with telephoto lens for 3X optical zoom and portrait mode. The cameras feature AI Composition, AI 4D predictive focus and AI HDR, and also what the company calls AI Cinema Mode. This mode lets users tweak the hue, saturation and brightness of their video clips, and also add effects like Vintage, Fresh, Suspense and Background Blur. Another feature called AI Spotlight Reel identifies clips with a shared theme and auto-generates a 10-second montages.
Under the hood, the Mate 20 series comes with Huawei s latest Kirin 980 SoC. The chipset manufactured using 7nm fabrication process is claimed to offer 20 percent improved performance and 40 percent improved efficiency over 10nm chipsets. The chipset features two Cortex A76 cores, two Cortex A76 cores, and four Cortex A55 cores.
Another highlight of the Mate 20 series is the battery. The Mate 20 is backed by a 4,000mAh battery, the Mate 20 Pro by a 4,200mAh battery, and the Mate 20 X by a large 5,000mAh battery. But the talking point is the support for SuperCharge 40W fast charging technology.
Huawei claims the tech helps in charging the battery to 25 percent in just 10 minutes, and 80 percent in just 30 minutes. The smartphones also support up to 15W Qi-based wireless charging. But what s really interesting is the support for reverse wireless charging on the Mate 20 Pro. The smartphone s battery can be used to fuel up other Qi-enabled devices wirelessly.
Huawei Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro specifications
As far as specifications are concerned, the Huawei Mate 20 flaunts a 6.53-inch display, while the Mate 20 Pro flaunts a 6.39-inch display. While the device is no doubt a powerhouse, the highlight is how Huawei is keeping the temperatures low to maintain performance levels.
