Gone are the days when rivalries in the technology industry used to be ‘healthy’. In today’s fiercely-competitive market, companies are willing to do whatever it takes to make their product(s) seem better than the rest. In fact, they don’t even refrain from belittling competitors in order to steal their thunder. Just about every brand does it, with Huawei being the latest.

Unless you just woke up from cryogenic sleep, you probably already know that a few hours ago, Apple launched its much-anticipated 2018 line-up of iPhones. As the launch event wrapped up, Huawei decided it was the perfect time to go on Twitter and take some digs at the Cupertino-based technology major.

Tweeting two short videos, Huawei’s official Twitter handle ‘thanked’ Apple for ‘supporting us (Huawei) as innovators’ and ‘keeping things the same’. The latter was clearly a subtle jab at the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, which can be considered as (mostly) iterative upgrades, as they are virtually identical in design to last year’s iPhone X.

In another tweeted photo, Huawei ‘thanked’ Apple for ‘letting us (Huawei) be the real hero of the year’.

Interestingly, in all three of the above tweets, Huawei closed things by tweeting ‘See you in London. 16.10.2018.’ In case you don’t know, this refers to the location and date of the official launch of Huawei’s Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro smartphones.

As a matter of fact, Huawei had begun mocking Apple before the latter’s iPhone launch even begun. The Chinese technology company tweeted a short video talking about the ‘fuss being made about a certain new* phone and its camera.’ The video briefly shows an aerial shot of a part of California, with Apple Park clearly visible at the bottom. The aerial shot than transitions down to reveal Huawei’s P20 and P20 Pro smartphones.

Huawei isn’t the first to mock its rival, and it certainly won’t be the last. However, it should know better than to troll the company that first released a smartphone with a notch, and features such as animated emojis that found its way into several Android smartphones including those by Huawei.
