The invitation shared by the company shows a picture of the Eiffel Tower in Paris with three circles in the background representing the triple camera system. The launch invite of P8, the first P-series smartphone from Huawei to feature dual rear camera system, had two circles indicating the dual cameras on the back. The bottom of the invite has the words, “See moore with AI” which could mean that the camera software will support new AI and object recognition features.
The next P-series smartphone was expected to be called P11, but it now seems that Huawei will instead call it P20. The Huawei P20 Lite, one of the models in the P20 series, was recently certified by the US FCC. In terms of features, the new P20 and P20 Plus are expected to sport triple camera system stacked vertically similar to Apple iPhone X’s vertically stacked dual camera system.
Huawei is working with German camera maker Leica for its triple camera system and it will be capable of capturing 40-megapixel photos. The setup is expected to enable 5x hybrid zoom and Huawei is focusing more on selfies this time with a leaked image suggesting a 24-megapixel selfie camera with low-light enhancement feature.
The leaked image also revealed that Huawei is implementing a new sensor and optics to ensure better low-light photography and capture 100 percent more light in Pro Night Mode. Apart from the camera, Huawei P20 and P20 Plus are also expected to feature a top-notch similar to that of iPhone X and support facial recognition system.
The P20 and P20 Plus smartphones are expected to feature a 5.8-inch to 6-inch display with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels, which could translate to even taller 19:9 aspect ratio. Huawei’s smartphone business has been growing exponentially driven by sales of its flagship devices and Honor-branded smartphones. With P20 and P20 Plus, it will be hoping to cement its place in the premium segment currently owned by the likes of Samsung and Apple.
