Huawei India has posted a teaser video on its Twitter handle, suggesting that the Huawei P20 and P20 Pro could be launching in India soon. While the phones were launched globally in March at an event in Paris, there was no word on when or even if the Huawei smartphones would launch in India. This latest teaser from the official India twitter handle of the Chinese smartphone major is as strong a hint as we can expect that the company does indeed intend to bring the phones to India. Huawei has typically adopted a different strategy for India, where the company tends to favor its Honor sub-brand over the Huawei brand. The price sensitivity of the Indian market means that Huawei’s premium smartphones tend not to perform as well compared to top-end options from Samsung, Apple and OnePlus. Additionally, Huawei doesn’t have as strong an offline distribution system in India as Apple and Samsung, and can’t quite compete with brands such as OnePlus and Xiaomi in generating buzz online.
In comparison, Honor’s online-first persona has ensured that the company can keep product pricing competitive, and tie-ups with Amazon India and Flipkart ensure that the products reach anywhere in the country where people want to buy them. As a result, the company tends to launch every Honor product in India, including the premium options, at very competitive prices. Huawei’s high pricing may not allow it to be entirely competitive against incumbent market leaders in the premium segment.
Nonetheless, the Huawei P20 Pro could attract attention simply because of the audacious nature of the device. The phone features a full-screen display with the ‘notch’ cutout, along with a first-ever triple-camera setup at the back. The primary camera is a 40-megapixel shooter, while the second and third cameras serve as monochrome and zoom lenses, for up to 3X lossless zoom and better low-light photography.

The teaser released by Huawei India doesn’t reveal anything; in fact it doesn’t even confirm if the phone will be launched in India. But the fact that the Huawei India handle is pushing teasers for the phone is as sure a sign as any that the phone will be launched in India. We’re awaiting word on when the series will be launched, and will update our readers as soon as we know.
