It was another busy day with some news, rumors and leaks pouring in, keeping us occupied through the day. Among the top stories of the day, Huawei has announced the India launch date for P20 Pro and P20 Lite smartphones, Xiaomi teased the upcoming Mi 6X (Mi A2) smartphone in a video, Amazon launched a ‘lite’ Android web browser, 4G availability improved in India, and a lot of other interesting developments happened today. Huawei P20, P20 Lite India launch

After unveiling the flagship smartphone, P20 Pro, in Paris, Huawei is all set to bring it to the Indian shores. The event is set to take place on April 24, but the venue details are scarce at the moment. Among the highlights, the Huawei P20 Pro sports a triple camera setup at the back, with 40-megapixel, 8-megapixel and 20-megapixel sensors. It also comes with a 24-megapixel front camera for selfies and video calling.

While Huawei also launched the P20 and P20 Lite, the company is also expected to launch the “Lite” version in India. It comes with a full screen display with a notch, dual cameras at the back and face unlock features. Both the P20 Pro and P20 Lite are powered by AI-based chipset.

Xiaomi Mi 6X promotional video shows off design

Ahead of the launch on April 25, Xiaomi’s official promotional video of the Mi 6X hints at the design of the smartphone. The video shows off different color options of the smartphone, which include Cherry Powder, Red Flame, Sand Gold, Glacier Blue and Black Stone.

The video also shows off Redmi Note 5 Pro like design with full screen display with 18:9 aspect ratio and vertical dual cameras at the back. While the Mi 6X will likely run MIUI 9.5 based on Android Oreo in China, the Indian version, Mi 2A, is expected to run Android One OS. However, details about India launch are scarce at the moment.

WhatsApp ‘Martinelli’ virus warning

Fake news spreads fast, and scamsters use platforms such as WhatsApp to spread the word. The latest is a ‘Martinelli’ video virus warning which claims that playing the video on your Android smartphone can make it vulnerable to hack in just 10 seconds.

The message has been spreading like a wildfire and it also urges users to subscribe to WhatsApp Gold membership, something that doesn’t actually exist. The message is just another hoax and we would recommend our users not to fall prey to such messages.

Amazon launched a ‘lite’ Android web browser

Amazon has silently launched a new web browser for Android smartphones in India. The browser, called ‘Internet: fast, lite and private’ is available to download from Google Play Store. Built for entry-level smartphones with low RAM and memory, the app is just 2.4MB in size, and supports Android smartphones running on version 5.0 and above.

Facebook to start third-party fact-checking

Ahead of local assembly elections in Karnataka, Facebook has partnered Boom to start fact-check news stories in India. The move is aimed to curb the spread of fake news on the social network. Starting today, BOOM will review all English language news stories flagged on Facebook, check facts, and rate their accuracy.

Samsung 20-20 Carnival on Amazon India

Samsung is hosting a 4-day special sale on Amazon India, called 20-20 Carnival, which will continue until April 21. During this sale, select Samsung smartphones will be available with discounts up to Rs 5,000, along with cashback offers from Reliance Jio. Samsung Galaxy On7 Prime, Galaxy On7 Pro, Galaxy J7 Duo, and Galaxy Note 8 among others are some of the smartphones available on the offer.

4G availability improves in India

According to the latest OpenSignal report, 4G availability in India has significantly improved in the last six months. The report states that the operators are focused on expanding their LTE reach, and are not focusing on improving the speeds. For operators, it has now become a priority to offer LTE signals.

Talking about speeds, Bharti Airtel continued to win the 3G and 4G, with overall speed award, and delivering typical download speeds of 6 Mbps. In comparison, Reliance Jio, came close second delivering speeds of up to 5.1Mbps. Reliance Jio also won the award for maximum 4G availability, with at least 27 percentage points.
