Huawei TalkBand B5, the next wearable device from the Chinese company, has leaked in the form of official product images. The TalkBand B5 will once again bring the concept of a smartwatch that also features a pop-out Bluetooth headset into a single package to the retail market.
Huawei tried this idea for the first time when it launched the TalkBand B1 way back in 2014. The leaked image of TalkBand B5 tweeted by Evan Blass does not reveal much except for the design. Considering its predecessor, the TalkBand B3 was launched in 2016, it is obvious that Huawei will be offering some improvements on the new device. The design, however, seems identical to last year’s model.
Huawei has been trying weird ideas with its smartphone and smartwatch design and one of the patents suggest it might have an even better idea for a smartwatch that doubles as bluetooth headset. A patent suggests the Chinese tech giant might launch a smartwatch that stores a pair of truly wireless earbuds. The idea could make it easier for users to not only wear a smartwatch but also stream music and make phone calls using the stored wireless earbuds.
While TalkBand B5 seems like a final product that could debut at IFA 2018 next month, the idea of storing wireless earbuds within a smartwatch remains a patent for now. It is not clear whether Huawei will actually launch a product around that idea and if it does, the big question will be the thickness of the smartwatch.
Watch: Huawei P20 Pro Review
While wearables as a segment seems to catching steam among consumers, the Android smartwatches have not been gaining a lot of traction. It needs to be seen whether Huawei can bring fresh interest in smartwatches with its wild idea of storing wireless earbuds within the wearable.
