“We are little slow on that number (10 lakh in a year). It was a number put by Sharad. We are aiming at 50,000-60,000 a month. We are now getting close to our first 10,000 device. We are not running or gunning for numbers,” Hyve chairman and managing director Aditya Agarwal said on sidelines of 4G smartphone launch of the company. Sharad Mehrotra, who co-founded Hyve after working with Apple in India for eight years, parted ways in September from the company. Mehrotra in June had projected to sell 10 million devices in a year. The company launched its third smartphone model ‘Pryme’ with 2 year warranty, free pick and drop for repair service across the country and complimentary 1 year accidental damage insurance.
Agarwal said that a smartphone with feature similar to Pryme is available in Indian market for around Rs 25,000 but Hyve has cut down on cost after collaboration with chipset company Mediatek and it is able to price it for Rs 17,999.
“We are EBIDTA positive today. We are the only company offering a pure Android phone at Rs 17,999. Other devices available is Google’s Pixel,” Agarwal said.
